What is Excel V+ and how does it work?

Excel V + is a dual length laser (532nm/1064nm) which selectively targets haemoglobin and melanin (selective photo thermolysis) without causing thermal damage to the surrounding tissue.
This device can be used on the face or body.

Depending on the skin condition, the Fitzpatrick skin type, and depth of the lesion, a wavelength at either 532 nanometres or 1064 nanometres will be delivered to the target lesion or area.
The laser light penetrates the skin, and the target absorbs this energy, converting it to heat and causing thermal destruction.

With pigmented lesions, the laser energy is absorbed by pigment causing the spot to darken and slough off.
With vascular lesions, the blood in the vein absorbs the energy causing coagulation and eventual destruction of the vessel. The blood flow is redirected deeper below the skin.

At B Cosmetics clients require a consultation with one of our doctors prior to having a Laser treatment. Your consultation involves a full skin and facial assessment and provides you the opportunity to discuss your area(s) of concern and expectations. You will also have clinical photography so we can monitor your treatment outcome and progress.

A plan will be developed to treat your condition and you will also be provided with information on how to prepare your skin before and after laser treatment to minimise risk and optimise results.

Depending on the condition and size of the area treatment could take anywhere from 30 minutes for a spot treatments or up to 60min for large leg vessels. Treatment time will be assessed during your initial consultation.
No topical anaesthetic is needed for this procedure, as Excel V+ uses an inbuilt cooling mechanism to minimise discomfort and we rely on patient
feedback to determine clinical response and minimise risk.

Excel V+ treatment can be mildly uncomfortable with some patients describing it like a quick snap of a rubber band on the skin.
Downtime can vary from person to person and depending on the condition treated. Patients can expect minor redness and swelling immediately after treatment. Swelling will peak 24 to 48 hours post full face treatments, typically resolving within a few days.

Comprehensive after care information and emergency contact details for our clinic will be provided after your treatment.

The number of Excel V treatments required is variable depending on various parameters including the size, thickness and colour of the vascular / pigmented lesion.

Some indications will have significant improvements after 1-2 sessions however in some cases a series of up to 6 treatments may be required for your desired result.

During your initial consultation, we will discuss a customized treatment plan for your individual needs and will be able to give a more accurate guide to sessions required.
